"I listen to my clients' needs and try to get the best outcome for them in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. I'm a zealous advocate for my clients."
In business litigation, Kelly knows how to see the forest for the trees. "The more challenging something is, the more I like to do it, but I also enjoy straightforward issues with a strong human component," says Kelly, who joined Melchert Hubert Sjodin in 1998 after practicing with a Minneapolis insurance defense litigation firm. She enjoys working closely with clients and performing beyond her clients' expectations.
Serving several communities in the area of employment law, Kelly assists businesses with performance management, regulatory compliance, litigation prevention, and compensation and benefits. She also represents employees in matters including review of employment agreements and issues involving wrongful termination. She emphasizes an efficient resolution to employment, business or municipal conflicts while taking the client's best interests into account. She believes that the personal approach makes a difference.
"Having a personal relationship with my client and being able to listen deeply for their needs is unique to a firm of our size, where you can still meet with your attorney face to face," Kelly says. "My clients feel comfortable with me and know they can call me anytime for a speedy answer to their questions."
Kelly also provides general corporate counsel, including contractual and transactional work and intellectual property rights. She has handled significant cases involving trade secret, trademark and copyright issues, which are becoming more prevalent due to the Internet.
"A lot of what I do is advise sophisticated business owners on the legal parameters and repercussions of their decisions. I work with them to get the information they need in order to provide the best results."
