"I like figuring out how to solve the problem, make the deal work and get it done in the face of various obstacles. I don’t sleep well unless I’m aggressively protecting client interests."
Larry has practiced Commercial and Governmental law at Melchert Hubert Sjodin since 1979.
His practice focuses on a wide variety of work for financial institutions and municipalities, involving many moving parts and personalities – which he loves. "I liked puzzles as a kid and I still do. One of the biggest challenges in government work is managing the expectations of the body in terms of what they can and can’t do; they are vigorously regulated and the political turnover means that decision makers are constantly changing."
Larry is frequently brought in by other attorneys to mediate or arbitrate in significant commercial disputes. He also represents counties in complex property tax disputes and is among a handful of Minnesota attorneys who regularly serve as special counsel for counties in this area.
In the financial services arena, Larry balances his role to facilitate the deal with advising clients on their risks and obligations. When he isn't negotiating for clients, he is speaking to them about key issues at educational seminars.
"I keep the best interests of my clients and the firm at heart. I want to set up this practice so that it continues after me."
