"I like people and I get along well with people. When people hire an attorney, they’re in need of help. I like helping people."
After almost four decades as an attorney, Luke has heard all the jokes. "Everybody loves to make fun of attorneys – until they need one that is," he says. "Then they learn that most attorneys work very hard and are very conscientious about doing a good job for their clients at a reasonable price."
Luke's own commitment to his clients – and his community – is the perfect example. A Waconia native, Luke joined his brother, Paul, at Melchert Hubert Sjodin in 1968. That same year, he became the city attorney for the neighboring community of Chaska. For nearly 40 years he has helped guide the city through substantial growth and transition, including its early adoption and execution of the "new town" concept and its more recent residential construction boom.
While the city's needs have changed over time, Luke says that the rewards of his efforts remain the same. "It's nice knowing what's going on in your community and knowing that you're making a difference," he says.
Luke also practices real estate and probate law at the firm’s Chaska office. "The word is out that we are a quality law firm," Luke says.
