Real ID just went effect in MN October 1, 2018. When you register for your driver’s license in MN you now have the option to get a Real ID. Real ID means that your identification card from the State of Minnesota meets the federal requirements. Real ID is mostly important with regard to boarding planes. Real ID can be used in lieu of a passport during check-in at the airport, your MN driver’s license alone won’t be sufficient to fly after 2020. Attorney Lisa Hill discusses the Real ID option available in MN in this interview on KDUZ 1260 AM’s show “Legal Update.”
